Berklee Contemporary Chinese Ensemble

Course Number
ENGB-231
Description

This ensemble explores contemporary and traditional global music, highlighting diverse cultural traditions, environmental themes, and interdisciplinary collaboration. With a special emphasis on Chinese music, the course bridges traditional Chinese musical foundations with global styles including jazz, electronic music, world music, multimedia arts, and dance. Through project-based learning, students actively arrange, compose, and perform music ranging from traditional Chinese repertoire to contemporary fusion works inspired by ensembles (such as Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble), current popular music, and original student compositions. Students from all backgrounds and instruments are invited to engage deeply with multicultural dialogue and innovative artistic expression in a collaborative setting.
