Live Techno and DJ Ensemble

Description

This ensemble focuses on the development of live electronic performances as well as DJ sets with a stylistic focus on techno and other subgenres. Utilizing group discussions and listening sessions of techno, students gain a deeper understanding of the genre and its musical characteristics in order to build a comprehensive knowledge of sound and techniques for performance. This class splits into a number of smaller groups, which work on two or more compositions with a rotating weekly schedule of performances that are open for discussion and critique. Students will use a variety of instruments and tools including CDJs, control surfaces, Ableton Live, audio and MIDI processing, and hardware instruments. The semester culminates in a final performance.
