Creative Concepts: Sound, Listening, and Identity

Course Number
EP-394
Description

In this course, students will create conceptual portfolio-level projects in their area of expertise. The course will offer students a space to reflect on their creative practices and develop new strategies and tools for creating thematic works. Throughout the semester, students will engage with and analyze various works by contemporary artists and theorists working in different disciplines. The course will focus on identity, and some of the topics explored will include the development of an artistic voice, the formation of the self, and the relationship between sound, listening, and identity both within and outside of the arts. Embracing the breadth of approaches to sound that are supported by EPD, the course is open to any form of creative practice the students wish to engage with. As such, potential projects may include 2-3 track EPs, multichannel compositions or installations, game design, stand-alone compositions, and additional possibilities.
