Description

This course explores the ways in which music from diverse cultures can be used to enrich the storytelling and emotional depth of films. Students will learn to identify and integrate traditional and contemporary music styles from regions such as Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Europe into various film genres. Students will conduct research on traditional instruments, music libraries, rhythms, and scales unique to different regions and times in history and will analyze how world music has been used in notable films. Assignments will include the research and scoring of music styles from different historical time periods. This course emphasizes inclusion, creativity, and mutual respect, ensuring a welcoming space for all participants to explore and express their own cultural identities. Students will gain a deeper understanding of global musical traditions and their application in film, sharpening skills in both cultural sensitivity and creative scoring.
