EDI Transcription Lab 1

Course Number
ILEL-111
Description

This course develops essential transcription and reading skills for Electronic Digital Instrument (EDI) performers, preparing students for real-world ensemble and studio situations. With a focus on electronic music styles, students will analyze and perform transcriptions of melody lines, bass parts, chordal accompaniments, and textural elements across a range of genres. Through hands-on practice with lead sheets, rhythm charts, and chord symbols, students build fluency in interpreting typical electronic music scores. In addition to sight-reading exercises, the course emphasizes sound selection and performance technique, encouraging students to choose appropriate synthesizer patches and articulations that match the style and function of each part. By the end of this course, students will be equipped to read and interpret essential performance materials, make stylistically appropriate sound choices, and contribute confidently to EDI ensemble and studio environments.
