Course Number
ENJZ-421
Description

The Diamond Cut Big Band is designed for high level student performers. In addition to performance skills, this course helps students to craft their overall character and identities as artistsUsing Tia Fuller's approach of "music is a manifestation of life", students will explore holistic life principles and empowerment along with advanced instrumental skills. In this traditional big band setting, students will sight-read and will be encouraged (but not required) to improvise. Students will gain large ensemble experience and perform with guest artists. Fall semester is focused on performing Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite for a holiday production at the Berklee Performance Center with Boston Conservatory at Berklee dancers. The spring semester will focus on the original compositions of Tia Fuller, expanded to big band. Students may play compositions by more contemporary artists as well. Students will gain expertise in phrasing, blending, dynamics, and individual and group improvisation.
