Drum set principal Chu Liang, currently in her third semester, will perform post-rock music with friends. The program highlights her rhythmic creativity and collaborative energy in this genre-bending style.
Viva Brasil presents a program of instrumental compositions that showcase the rich rhythmic traditions of Brazil—including partido alto, bossa nova, ijexá, samba, and baião. The repertoire features music by Azymuth, Antônio Carlos Jobim, Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti, Arismar Espírito Santo, and Thiago Espírito Santo.
Percussionist Quinn Medina presents a fun night playing music with his friends, including works by Ivan Trevino, Adam Tan, and others as well as original pieces by his band, the Pals. Instrumentation features orchestral percussion instruments, drum set, guitar/vox, and a string ensemble.
Composer Taylor Stanley and his band present an evening of large ensemble jazz, combining a variety of musical influences including folk, pop, and musical theater. This recital will feature both arrangements and original compositions.
Students enrolled in Marimba Ensembles, Marimba in Mixed Chamber Music Ensemble, and Marimba Transcriptions and Repertoire Lab will perform compositions and arrangements featuring marimba and vibraphone—spanning genres from classical new music to jazz and pop styles. Directed by Nancy Zeltsman.
Larnell Lewis presents a culminating concert, featuring Joy Lapps, as part of the Percussion Department's Fall 2025 Armand Zildjian Artist-in-Residency Program.
Drummer Z leads a performance featuring a mix of traditional, contemporary, and original compositions. Through deep listening and a spirit of love and inclusivity, the ensemble will explore unknown spaces of sound, creating a soulful and immersive musical experience.
Featured drummer and bandleader Larnell Lewis will be interviewed as part of the 2025 Armand Zildjian Artist-in-Residence Program. The event will be moderated by Sean Skeete, dean of the Performance Division; Yoron Israel, chair of the Percussion Department; and Eric Gross, Zildjian relations artist and manager. The program will also include a question-and-answer segment for student participation.
Fusion quartet Booligan performs a mix of original works and jazz/funk fusion covers, delivering music that’s both engaging and accessible to all audiences—true ear candy for contemporary jazz and funk lovers.
The duo of Kim Perlak and Francisco Mela connects the sounds of modern classical guitar and avant-garde percussion. Their original works and spontaneous compositions feature modern, impressionistic, lyrical guitar playing, and a full range of imaginative textures from the drum set. Through this new music, the duo invites listeners to become a part of each performance in spirit through their active listening presence.
