Technology for Composition Students
As an undergraduate Berklee student majoring in composition (COMP), the required software listed below will be essential to your success.
Required Software
You are required to own or have access to the software listed below. It is your responsibility to purchase any required software.
Dorico Pro or Sibelius Ultimate (Choose one)
This professional notation software program must be used in all composition major courses, including directed study and all standard notation scores created and presented to visiting artists.
Note: MuseScore and Noteflight will not be accepted for Composition Major coursework or directed study.
Recommended
In addition, all composition majors are encouraged to acquire:
- A professional DAW (such as Logic Pro, Cubase, or ProTools)
- A high-quality handheld recorder (such as a Zoom H4) to record rehearsals and concerts of your music.
- If you use an iPad for conducting or performing, we recommend using the ForScore app.
ALL STUDENTS IN CORE CLASSES CM-211, CM-212, and CP-210
As an undergraduate Berklee student in Tonal Harmony 1&2 and The Art of Counterpoint classes, the recommended software listed below will be important to your success.

Either Dorico (Pro, Elements or SE), Sibelius, MuseScore Studio or Noteflight.
