Admissions Policy
Once admitted to the Berklee College of Music Bachelor of Music Program, all students may apply to the music education program. Interested students are required to complete an additional application, which ensures that they meet minimum GPA requirements (2.7/4.0 or higher) and complete a CORI check.
Candidates complete an application form, a departmental interview, and submit a letter of reference. Students are asked to complete a number of questions, including describing their level of proficiency and confidence in musical and interpersonal skills, and to explain why they are interested in the major. Once the application is complete, it is assessed by a faculty committee. The application, including the interview, is assessed for student potential for success in the major based on his/her GPA, skills, and motivation to enter the profession.
This holistic approach to admission to the Music Education major is both orderly and ethical and is a direct reflection of Berklee’s commitment to the mission to “educate, train, and develop students to excel in music as a career.”
